Milan Targets Breel Embolo for Attacking Rebuild
AC Milan have turned their attention to Breel Embolo as they plan the next phase of their attacking rebuild, but they are far from alone in the chase for the Switzerland international.
According to calciomercato.com, the Rennes forward has emerged as the latest name on Rúben Amorim’s shortlist. Milan have already opened talks with Embolo’s representatives to gauge the parameters of a potential deal — availability, cost, and above all, the player’s willingness to move.
On Rennes’ side, there is still silence. No formal contact has been made with the Ligue 1 club, who value Embolo at around €15m. His contract runs until 2029, which gives the French side a strong negotiating position. Yet one detail will encourage suitors: after his standout performances at the recent World Cup, Embolo has signalled he is open to returning to Italy.
Interest from Serie A and beyond
He will not be short of options.
Napoli, now under Massimiliano Allegri, also have Embolo on their list as they reshape their forward line. Bournemouth are tracking him as well, with the Premier League understood to be a destination the striker would welcome. Embolo has long had admirers in Italy; Juventus and Roma have both followed him closely in previous windows, even if that interest never hardened into a transfer.
This time, the market conditions feel different. A €15m fee for a World Cup standout under a long contract is the kind of equation that tempts sporting directors across Europe, especially those looking for a powerful, versatile forward who can press, run channels and finish.
Dominoes that must fall
For Milan and Napoli, though, nothing moves until something gives.
At Milan, everything is tied to outgoing business. The club have yet to receive an offer they consider acceptable for Rafael Leão. Their stance is clear: €50m or the Portuguese winger stays. Until that figure appears on the table, they will not commit heavily elsewhere in attack.
Napoli face a similar logjam. Sporting director Giovanni Manna is working to find a new club for Romelu Lukaku, whose future remains the key to their own attacking puzzle. Only once Lukaku’s situation is resolved can Allegri’s side fully step into the race for Embolo.
A second trigger for Milan
Milan do have another possible route into the deal.
Santiago Giménez is among the players who could leave the club. If the Mexican striker departs, the Rossoneri may decide to push for Embolo regardless of what happens with Leão. That scenario would turn Embolo from “option” to “priority” in a matter of days.
For now, the operation sits in its early stages — calls to agents, internal valuations, scenarios mapped out on whiteboards at club headquarters. But the shape of the market is clear. Once one major attacking move goes through, the rest will follow.
When those dominoes start to fall, Breel Embolo’s next destination could be decided very quickly.
