The idea was intoxicating while it lasted. Michael Olise, lighting up the right flank for Bayern Munich and carrying that form into the 2026 World Cup with France, dropping straight into a Real Madrid attack already armed with Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe. But context matters. According to Falk, it was a joke. A light-hearted quip between two presidents who know each other well, not a declaration of war over Bayern’s star winger.
Behind the scenes, the relationship between Perez and Hainer is described as close, and that has shaped the real agreement between the clubs. Madrid have already assured Bayern they will not move for Olise this summer. If that position changes in the future, Bayern will be the first to know. Only after informing Hainer would Madrid contact the player or his camp.
That is the gentleman’s pact. And for now, it holds.
Not this summer – but the door isn’t locked
So where does that leave Olise?
For this window, the answer is simple: in Munich. Bayern view him as central to their plans, Madrid have promised to stay away, and both clubs are keen to protect a long-standing relationship that has survived more than one high-stakes transfer saga over the years.
Yet the story does not feel finished. Far from it.
Olise’s performances for Bayern and France have pushed him into the very top tier of young attacking talents. His profile is almost tailor-made for Madrid’s evolving front line, and the idea of him eventually joining Mbappe and Vinicius will not disappear just because one summer passed without a bid.
The understanding between Perez and Hainer buys Bayern time and keeps the peace. It does not close the chapter. It simply delays it.
