Max-Edgar Chabot Set to Join Manchester City
Angers starlet Max-Edgar Chabot is on the brink of swapping his formative club for Manchester City after turning down his first professional contract with Le SCO, according to Le Parisien.
The 18-year-old goalkeeper, considered one of the most promising prospects in the Angers system, has rejected the offer to go pro in France and is now edging towards a move to the Premier League champions. Nothing has been signed yet, but an agreement is described as close and could be finalised in the coming days.
For Angers, it is another blow in a turbulent summer between the posts. Hervé Koffi shone on loan from RC Lens last season, yet his performances effectively priced the club out of a permanent deal for the Burkina Faso international. Angers pivoted to Anthony Lopes, available as a free agent after the end of his contract at FC Nantes, to stabilise the position.
Just as that situation seemed under control, the next storm arrived. Chabot, groomed in the Angers academy and already exposed to international football with France’s U17s at last autumn’s U17 World Cup, is now poised to walk out before even signing his first senior deal.
For City, it fits a clear pattern: secure elite young talent early, especially in goal. For Angers, it leaves a familiar question hanging over the training ground. How do you build for the future when your future keeps heading for the exit?
