Roberto Mancini Commends Italy’s Resilience After Convincing Win Over Turkey

Roberto Mancini expressed pride following Italy’s commanding 4-1 victory over Turkey in the UEFA Nations League. The match, held in Bursa, was played under tough weather conditions with heavy rain making the pitch challenging. Still, the Italian team managed to deliver a strong performance, bouncing back from their previous loss against Belgium.

Technical Skill Prevails Amid Harsh Conditions

Mancini praised his squad for their professionalism and adaptability on a difficult surface that threatened their fluid style of play. Despite the heavy rain, Italy kept their composure and executed precise passing throughout the game. Reflecting on the win, Mancini shared with Sky Sport Italia, "I am satisfied because the boys played well on a tough pitch and it wasn’t easy. They did beautiful things and I’m happy for them because they deserve it."

Tactical Setup Creates Problems for Turkey

The manager highlighted the tactical flexibility of Italy’s front three, which constantly troubled the Turkish defense. Mancini explained that each attacker had specific roles designed to confuse the opposition and exploit space. The forwards stretched play wide while also creating overloads in central areas, resulting in multiple goals.

He added details about his instructions: "I had asked the attackers to start wide — Sebastiano Esposito stayed wide on the left, Giacomo Raspadori moved inside to support Pio, and Michael Kayode attacked on the right. In the second half, Turkey’s reaction was predictable and normal." This strategy paid off as Italy maintained control despite shifts in momentum.

Michael Kayode’s Memorable Debut

The night was especially notable for Michael Kayode, who scored on his senior debut and impressed with his balanced attacking and defensive work on the flank. Mancini noted that Kayode showed no nerves and integrated perfectly into the system.

"He was very good, it was his first match with the National team and it wasn’t easy for him. But he was good beyond the goal scored," Mancini told reporters.

Looking Ahead to France Clash

Though pleased with the result, Mancini remains grounded, viewing the win as part of a longer process rather than an endpoint. The focus now turns to recovery and preparation for their upcoming Nations League match against France, where the challenge will be even tougher.

Comparing this victory to the previous defeat, Mancini stressed the boost in confidence for his players: "It’s worth as much as the defeat against Belgium was worth. The thing that matters is that the boys have understood they can do good things, but the road is still long. Now we have to recover our strength because then there is a difficult match against France."
