Manchester United enter the final month of the summer window with their business far from finished and their strategy crystal clear: reshape now, future-proof quickly, and stay nimble if an opportunity appears.

Michael Carrick has already pushed through five arrivals as he quietly but decisively remoulds his squad. The midfield has been the first major surgery. Youri Tielemans brings Premier League know-how and a passing range United have lacked, while Andrey Santos offers legs, energy and a long-term project in the centre of the pitch. Between them, they signal a shift towards a more technical, proactive core.

Behind them, the goalkeeping department has been ripped up and reassembled. Senne Lammens ended last season as the undisputed No.1, yet that hasn’t stopped United from moving aggressively. Karl Darlow has come in as experienced cover, a steady pair of hands to sit behind Lammens and offer competition. Youngster Kit Margetson has also been added, a clear nod to the next generation.

The churn has been ruthless. Andre Onana has gone back out on loan to Trabzonspor. Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek are both being linked with exits. For a position that once looked settled, the gloves are suddenly up for grabs.

The latest twist came from South America. Orlando Gill, the San Lorenzo goalkeeper who impressed for Paraguay at this summer’s World Cup, has emerged as another name on United’s radar.

His agent, Mario Jara, has confirmed that the Old Trafford club were among those to make an approach.

“We are in talks with English clubs as well as clubs in Germany,” Jara told DSports Radio. “There were enquiries with Manchester United. We only received two concrete offers. We are currently in the negotiation phase.

“The sale is close, the time is right. We have to handle it very carefully because there are many things involved. It's ideal for him to take a step up in quality. He's prepared and capable of playing in any league, without a doubt.

“We're trying to finalise it as quickly as possible for everyone's benefit. It would be very important for San Lorenzo; hopefully, it will come to fruition.”

United, having already secured Darlow, are not expected to push hard for Gill now. But the mere fact they tested the water shows how aggressively Carrick and the recruitment team are interrogating every area of the squad. No sentiment, no comfort zones.

For goalkeepers at the club, the message is clear: standards are rising, and nobody is completely safe.

Conceicao price set as Juve shuffle their pack

The same edge is visible higher up the pitch.

As Juventus shuffle their own squad, United are watching closely. The Italian side’s move for Bayer Leverkusen prospect Kerim Alajbegovic has opened the door for one of their most exciting wide players to leave: Francisco Conceicao.

The 23-year-old winger has been linked with Old Trafford, and the numbers around any deal are beginning to solidify. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, both Manchester United and Liverpool have made enquiries, with Juventus valuing Conceicao between £34 million and £42 million.

That is the going rate for a young, high-ceiling wide forward who made 42 appearances last season and has already shown he can handle the demands of a major European club. For Juve, the decision is brutal but simple: they need to balance the books after bringing in Alajbegovic, and selling Conceicao is the sacrifice they are prepared to make.

For United, it is an opportunity that fits the broader pattern of their window. Tielemans and Santos to refresh the middle. Darlow and Margetson to reshape the goalkeeping group. Tynan Thompson, the highly rated winger, already through the door as one for tomorrow.

Conceicao, if United choose to move from enquiry to bid, would be a signing for both now and next. A wide player entering his prime, with the pace and directness Carrick’s system demands.

One month remains until the window slams shut on September 1. United have laid the foundations. The question now is whether they add one more statement piece to a squad being rebuilt with clear intent and very little patience for standing still.
