Manchester United Negotiates Joshua Zirkzee Loan to Juventus
Manchester United are deep in negotiations with Juventus over a deal that could see Joshua Zirkzee leave Old Trafford on loan with an option to buy this summer.
The Italian club have moved for the Dutch forward after their pursuit of Randal Kolo Muani collapsed, with The Sun reporting that Zirkzee has now become a priority target in Turin. His representatives are understood to have responded positively to Juventus’ proposal, clearing a major hurdle in the talks.
United, for their part, appear ready to cut their losses. They are prepared to approve a loan move that includes a £30 million option to buy, despite paying around £36.5 million to bring Zirkzee to the club in 2024. Inside Old Trafford, there is a growing feeling that the proposed fee accurately reflects his current value after a stuttering spell in England.
Zirkzee has drifted to the fringes of United’s plans. Last season he started only five Premier League matches under Ruben Amorim and Michael Carrick, never truly nailing down a place in the side or producing the consistency expected of a leading forward at the club.
Interest in the 25-year-old is strong across Europe this summer, but Juventus are currently at the front of the queue. The Old Lady had been close to securing Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain following the Frenchman’s disappointing loan stint at Tottenham. The deal unravelled when talks over the financial terms stalled, forcing Juventus to look elsewhere for a new centre-forward.
Zirkzee quickly emerged as the preferred alternative. He offers a profile Juventus like, and crucially, he knows Serie A. The striker previously spent a season on loan at Parma and two seasons with Bologna, experiences that mean Italian football and life in the country hold no surprises for him.
His numbers at United tell the story of an underwhelming chapter: just nine goals in 75 appearances. For a club demanding ruthless end product from its No. 9s, that return has never been enough. A fresh start now appeals to all sides.
Zirkzee is open to the move and to the chance to relaunch his career at the Allianz Stadium. Juventus want a focal point to lead their line. United want clarity in a crowded attacking department and a cleaner wage bill.
If the two clubs can close the gap on the structure of the loan and the option to buy, a once highly touted striker could soon be back in a league he knows well, trying to prove that his best years are still ahead of him.
