Manchester United Goalkeeper Exit: Altay Bayindir Joins Celta Vigo
Manchester United’s late-summer clear-out between the posts is underway, and the first domino has already fallen.
Altay Bayindir is heading for Celta Vigo. Fabrizio Romano has confirmed United have agreed a deal with the La Liga side, signing off on a move that underlines just how quickly the goalkeeping hierarchy has shifted at Old Trafford.
Romano reported that Celta have struck an agreement with United for a loan deal, which includes a €4m option to buy. That figure can change depending on Bayindir’s appearances, but the key point is clear: Celta have a defined route to make the move permanent if it works. The Turkish keeper has been authorised to travel for his medical and to sign the paperwork.
It is a brisk end to a brief and largely anonymous spell in Manchester for Bayindir, who never truly threatened to climb the ladder after joining as cover. Once United moved to bring in Karl Darlow on a free this summer, the writing appeared on the wall.
Darlow has arrived with a clear brief: back up Senne Lammens and be ready to step in without fuss. Tom Heaton, content and firmly established as the No 3, remains in place as the experienced safety net. That left Bayindir squeezed out, surplus to requirements before the season had even settled into rhythm.
United’s decision-makers have not stopped at one outgoing. The goalkeeping department is being trimmed with purpose.
Radek Vitek is the next in line for an exit. The 22-year-old has also been given approval to move on, and overnight United moved close to a permanent agreement with Middlesbrough. It is a different type of deal to Bayindir’s, but it carries the same message: the club is clearing space and clarifying roles.
All of this unfolds against a wider backdrop of upheaval at Old Trafford. A third new midfielder is on the wish list. A new left-back too. Lewis Hall, though, will not be that man. Newcastle, having already cashed in on Sandro Tonali, Anthony Gordon and now Bruno Guimaraes to Arsenal, have drawn a hard line and insisted Hall is going nowhere.
The exits are not limited to the keepers. Altay Bayindir and Radek Vitek sit on a broader list of potential departures flagged by The Athletic: Harry Amass, Toby Collyer, Ethan Wheatley and Joshua Zirkzee could all yet move before the window closes, as United look to streamline a bloated squad and free up room for targeted reinforcements.
For Bayindir, Spain offers a fresh start and, crucially, minutes. For United, it is a calculated reshuffle: a leaner goalkeeping group, clearer pecking order, and a little extra flexibility as the final month of the window threatens to turn frantic.
