The London club have previously valued Fernandez at around £120million and intend to hold that line. Any sale would be reluctant, not strategic, and only triggered if a club is prepared to meet that figure.

Reijnders weighs up his options

As revealed by Football Insider, the Dutch midfielder could be tempted to push for a move before the 1 September deadline if his role does not look set to grow. His concern is simple: minutes.
He featured 50 times in all competitions last season, but only 19 of those appearances were Premier League starts. For a 28-year-old in his prime, that ratio is not the profile of an undisputed starter at a club chasing every major trophy.
If Maresca cannot offer a clearer pathway to regular league starts, Reijnders may decide his future lies elsewhere. And if he joins Rodri in heading for the exit, City’s cautious stance on Fernandez and Bouaddi may not last long.
Right now, the numbers don’t quite add up. One big fee is manageable; two looks excessive. But one major sale can rewrite a transfer window. Two can redefine a team.
