Manchester City Near Deal for Lille Midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi as Rodri Edges Toward Barcelona
Lille head coach Davide Ancelotti has confirmed ongoing talks with Manchester City regarding the transfer of young midfielder Ayyoub Bouaddi. The club is pushing ahead to secure the Moroccan talent as part of a midfield rebuild under new manager Enzo Maresca, who recently took over from Pep Guardiola.
Ancelotti Speaks on Transfer Discussions
After Lille's final preseason match against Everton, Ancelotti openly acknowledged the interest from multiple clubs and specifically the negotiations with Manchester City. He praised Bouaddi’s maturity and technical skill at just 18 years old, highlighting his strong presence on the pitch and potential to become one of Europe’s top midfielders over the next decade.
"There are negotiations. Many clubs are interested. He is a really good player and I hope he stays with us! What makes him special? He has huge personality, intelligence on and off the ball, and maturity beyond his years. Technically complete and physically strong in duels."
Agreement on Personal Terms and Transfer Fee
Though Lille initially aimed for around €100 million, Manchester City is reportedly aiming closer to €80 million for the deal. Bouaddi himself has agreed personal terms with City and prefers to move this summer rather than waiting until 2027, according to football journalist Fabrizio Romano. This transfer comes amid growing signs that City’s Rodri will soon join Barcelona, after being left out of the squad in City's recent 3-0 Community Shield loss to Arsenal.
