Lukas Hornicek Joins Newcastle United: A New Chapter Begins

The 198cm goalkeeper has completed his move to the Premier League club and spoke of an “emotional rollercoaster” in the days leading up to the transfer, admitting the move has left him “so happy to be here.”

“It’s a brilliant opportunity in a new league, which I’m very excited about,” Hornicek told the club’s official website. “From the very first moment I arrived here, I received a fantastic welcome and really felt the warmth of the club. Everyone has been brilliant in helping me settle in.”

The warmth matters, but the numbers explain why Newcastle pushed to get him. Seven clean sheets in last season’s Europa League turned heads across the continent and quickly moved him from promising talent to serious target for clubs shopping at the top end of the market.

Newcastle’s recruitment team moved swiftly. Those European performances, marked by a commanding presence and consistency under pressure, convinced the club that this was a goalkeeper ready to grow with an ambitious project rather than simply make up the numbers.

Sporting director Ross Wilson did not hide the scale of their belief in the new signing.

“He has firmly established himself as one of Europe’s top young goalkeepers,” Wilson said. “We knew there would be no shortage of clubs interested in acquiring Lukas this summer after everything he achieved last season, but it quickly became evident how keen he was to be a part of what we are building here.”
