Loïs Openda Joins Olympique Lyonnais on Loan

Loïs Openda is on the move again. After just a single season in Turin, the Belgian forward is set to swap Juventus for Olympique Lyonnais, in a deal that underlines both Lyon’s intent and Juve’s need to streamline.

Multiple outlets, including Sky and Fabrizio Romano, report that Openda will join Lyon on a straight loan for the 2026-27 campaign. No option. No obligation. Just a one-year shot for Paulo Fonseca to plug a proven attacking weapon into his system.

The numbers are clear enough. Lyon will pay around €3m to secure the loan and, crucially for Juventus, will cover Openda’s salary in full. Earlier in the week, there were suggestions the Italian club might have to subsidise part of his wages to get a deal over the line. That pressure has eased. For Juve, it’s clean business: a fee in, a salary off the books, and no long-term commitment lost.

For Lyon, it’s a calculated gamble with upside. They get a forward who has already shown he can handle the demands of a top European league, without tying themselves to a permanent transfer fee. For Fonseca, it’s another attacking piece as he looks to reshape a side that has lurched between rebuild and reset too often in recent years.

The image of Openda in a Juventus shirt at the Mapei Stadium in early January already feels like a snapshot from a brief, unfinished chapter. In Lyon, he gets another chance to write something more substantial.
