Liverpool Gains Momentum as PSG Lowers Asking Price for Bradley Barcola
Liverpool have received a major boost in their pursuit of Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola after the French club reduced their asking price. The potential transfer, which could reach around £115 million, is gaining momentum as the transfer deadline approaches.
Negotiations Accelerate
After a rocky start, talks between Liverpool and PSG have made significant progress. Sources from The Times reveal that PSG dropped their initial €170 million valuation to approximately £115 million following recent discussions. This reduction of roughly £30 million marks a turning point in the negotiations.
Liverpool shifted focus to Barcola after failing to close a deal for Yan Diomande. With less than a week left before the transfer window closes on Tuesday, Liverpool officials are pushing hard to finalize the agreement.
A Potential Record Transfer
If completed, Barcola would become Liverpool’s second-most expensive signing ever. The £115 million fee is just below the £125 million paid by Newcastle United for Alexander Isak last summer. The previous record involved Florian Wirtz, whose total package reached £116 million, though Liverpool's direct payment was £16 million contingent on team success.
Deciding whether Barcola justifies such a hefty investment is now in the hands of Liverpool’s management. Personal terms seem manageable since a long-term contract framework is reportedly in place, with Barcola keen on joining Liverpool.
Ongoing Search for a Right Winger
Alongside the Barcola pursuit, Liverpool continues scouting for a right winger before the September 1 transfer deadline at 11 pm. Sporting director Richard Hughes is examining several options after the collapse of the Diomande transfer.
- Ibrahim Mbaye and Yankuba Minteh were targets; however, Brighton rejected two bids for Minteh and insisted on an £80 million price.
- Inquiries about Endrick and Ismaila Sarr did not progress, as Real Madrid and Crystal Palace blocked their sales.
- Interest also exists in Said El Mala and Matias Fernandez-Pardo, but it’s unclear if Liverpool pursued them after signing Victor Munoz in June.
What Lies Ahead for Liverpool?
It seems likely that Liverpool and PSG will finalize the Barcola deal soon. Hughes needs to act quickly to complete the necessary paperwork and medical tests before the transfer window shuts. Securing Barcola alongside another right winger could shape this summer into a pivotal period for Liverpool.
