Liverpool look to have landed one of the most eye-catching defensive moves of the summer, with Barcelona centre-back Ronald Araujo set to join the club on loan.

The Uruguay international, long linked with a move away from the Nou Camp, is poised to swap La Liga for the Premier League in a deal that underlines Andoni Iraola’s intent to harden Liverpool’s spine ahead of the new season.

Transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano reports that Liverpool and Barcelona have reached an agreement for a temporary switch, with Barca sporting director Deco giving the green light to the move. The deal is understood to be a straight loan, with TalkSPORT stating there is no option or obligation to buy included in the agreement.
