Liverpool Fans Demand Clarity on Jeff Bezos Minority Stake Proposal

The Spirit of Shankly fan group has called on Fenway Sports Group for clear information following reports that Amazon founder Jeff Bezos is involved in a consortium aiming to acquire a substantial minority share in Liverpool FC. The supporters want to understand what this proposed deal means for the club's ownership and future governance.

Fans Request Urgent Meeting Amid Investment Rumors

According to ESPN, Spirit of Shankly has formally approached Liverpool with a demand for clarity on how the potential 30 percent sale would affect football operations at Anfield. The group has requested an immediate meeting with club officials to discuss possible changes within the boardroom caused by the investment.

Protecting Liverpool’s Core Values

Spirit of Shankly emphasized that safeguarding the club's identity remains their top priority during takeover talks. They expressed concern over how new investors might shape key decisions.

"Given the history behind FSG's purchase of the club, ownership and control—prioritizing the interests of Liverpool FC and its supporters—is fundamental to all of us," the group stated."The reported 30% stake sale and the consortium behind it are significant. Ownership and custodianship of our club are paramount to SoS and every supporter. We’ve seen similar minority sales at other clubs lead to major shifts in management and football operations, often resulting in actions that many would not wish for at Liverpool."

Consortium Features Wealth But Limited Sports Experience

Jeff Bezos holds an estimated personal fortune of £210 billion and owns assets like The Washington Post and Blue Origin. Despite his financial clout, he lacks prior experience investing in sports teams, though he has been linked to NFL franchises in the past.

The consortium also includes Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Leading the group is Amit Bhatia, son-in-law of steel magnate Lakshmi Mittal, who brings sports business experience as former co-owner and director of Queens Park Rangers, a role he held for 18 years before stepping down.

FSG Awaits Formal Response on Board Influence

Fenway Sports Group, Liverpool's parent company, has remained open to outside investment. Since acquiring the club in 2010 for around £300 million, its value has soared to approximately £4.5 billion. Last month, FSG confirmed interest from the Bhatia-led consortium for a strategic minority stake.

Supporters now await official details about board representation and influence before any deal is finalized.
