Liverpool Eyes Signing Spain's World Cup Winner Ferran Torres as Barcelona Contract Nears End
Liverpool is reportedly preparing to pursue Ferran Torres this summer after the forward’s decisive role in Spain’s 1-0 victory over Argentina in the 2026 World Cup final. Torres scored the winning goal in extra time, coming off the bench to seal Spain’s triumph.
Despite his international success, Torres’ club future remains unclear. His contract with Barcelona has less than a year left, and the Spanish champions are actively seeking a new centre-forward. They have made an offer for Julian Alvarez, targeting him as a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski.
This pursuit of Alvarez casts doubt on Torres’ place at Barcelona. Last season, he had his best campaign yet, scoring 16 goals in 33 league appearances—only 23 of which were starts. His versatility across the front three increases his value as a player.
Reports from L'Equipe suggest that Liverpool sees an opening to sign Torres, especially with their attack weakened by Mohamed Salah’s departure and Hugo Ekitike’s ongoing Achilles injury expected to keep him out until 2027. Andoni Iraola has reportedly identified Torres as a fitting addition to bolster Liverpool’s forward options.
Since joining Barcelona from Manchester City in January 2022, the 26-year-old has netted 65 goals in 201 appearances. Before that, during his 18 months in England with Manchester City, he scored 18 times in 43 matches.
Paris Saint-Germain has also expressed interest in Torres. Luis Enrique, former Barcelona manager, admires the forward’s qualities, adding to the list of suitors watching his next move closely.
