Manchester United Firm on Bruno Fernandes Transfer Stance
Manchester United have drawn a thick red line through Bruno Fernandes’ name on the transfer market.
The club intend to reject any offer for their captain before next month’s transfer deadline, shutting the door on growing interest from Europe’s heavyweights.
United shut down suitors
Galatasaray, Juventus and AC Milan have all been weighing up moves for Fernandes, with the Turkish champions understood to have lined up a proposal worth up to 50m euros (£42.7m).
They have been warned off in no uncertain terms.
Senior figures at Old Trafford have made it clear Galatasaray would be wasting their time submitting a bid. The same message applies across the board: Fernandes is not for sale.
Club sources say no formal offers have arrived for the 31-year-old, but stress that the stance would not change even if they did. The response, at any price, is a flat no.
A very different tone from last summer
That represents a sharp shift from last year. Then, United told Fernandes the decision was his if he wanted to accept a huge offer from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal. The midfielder later admitted he felt “hurt” by the club’s willingness to leave the door open.
This time, there is no ambiguity. United have nailed their colours to their captain.
Fernandes has one year left on his current contract, with an option for a further season, and is known to prefer staying at Old Trafford. His £57m release clause has now expired, removing the one mechanism that could have forced United’s hand.
There is, however, still no agreement on a new long-term deal.
Fans make their feelings clear
If anyone at the club needed reminding how important Fernandes is to the fanbase, they got it in Dublin last week. The midfielder received a raucous reception during United’s pre-season meeting with Leeds, a reaction that underlined his status as the team’s talisman.
That noise has not gone unnoticed. Inside Old Trafford, there is a clear understanding that supporters would react badly to any perception the club were not doing everything possible to keep their captain.
On the pitch, the numbers back up that emotional pull. Fernandes delivered a Premier League record 21 assists last season and is the leading contender to be named PFA Player of the Year for 2025-26 at a ceremony in Manchester next week.
United have made their move. The ball now sits with Fernandes and his representatives, and with a contract clock quietly ticking in the background, the next signature on that deal could shape the club’s immediate future.
