Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola is threatening to collapse under the weight of Paris Saint-Germain’s demands – and Arsenal are watching every twist.
Liverpool baulk at £145m as talks stall
Liverpool identified Barcola as a flagship signing for their new era on the right flank after Mohamed Salah’s surprise free transfer to Trabzonspor last week. The France winger has been high on their list for weeks, viewed as a marquee replacement rather than a squad addition.
But the deal has hit a wall.
Negotiations between Liverpool and PSG have been running for some time, yet the two clubs remain miles apart on valuation. PSG have set the price at around £145million, according to The Athletic, and have shown no inclination to soften that stance.

Barcola is understood to be keen on the move, eager for more minutes and a bigger role, but his wishes are not shifting PSG’s position. With less than three weeks until deadline day, the talks are edging towards stalemate.
Inside Anfield, the mood is hardening. The club are now prepared to walk away rather than be dragged into a fee they consider excessive, and are actively weighing up alternative options to reinforce Andoni Iraola’s thin squad.
One of those options sits in the same dressing room as Barcola: 18-year-old Ibrahim Mbaye, another PSG talent now on Liverpool’s radar.
Arsenal sense an opening
Liverpool’s willingness to step back from the Barcola deal could have major consequences in north London.
Arsenal, still searching for a statement signing in attack, have been tracking the situation in the background. They saw one dream target disappear when Vinicius Junior chose to sign a new long-term contract at Real Madrid rather than entertain a move to the Emirates. That setback has not dulled their ambition.
The Gunners have already added Christos Tzolis on the left, yet their interest in Barcola has not cooled. If Liverpool do walk away, Arsenal would have a clear run at the Frenchman and are expected to monitor every development, waiting for the moment PSG’s negotiating table clears.
Mikel Arteta has been open about his intent to keep pushing in the market. “Well, that’s what we’re trying to do,” he said when asked about more arrivals this summer. “If we have the right player in the market to make us much better, we are very looking forward to that.”
Arsenal have already shown their financial muscle with a £75m move for Bruno Guimaraes last week. The midfield rebuild is underway; the focus now is on firepower. Arteta is understood to be targeting forwards to elevate a squad that has gone close in recent title races but still lacks that final layer of attacking depth.
So the picture is clear. PSG have drawn a line at £145m. Liverpool, wary of overpaying, are edging towards the exit and scouting alternatives like Mbaye. Arsenal, cash spent but ambition undimmed, are waiting to see if Barcola becomes the next big opportunity in a summer that is starting to define the direction of two title contenders.
