Liverpool Closing in on Bradley Barcola Transfer
Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has felt, at times this summer, like another transfer saga drifting towards disappointment. Yan Diomande slipped away. Michael Olise did the same. The frustration around Anfield has been real.
Now, though, the picture is changing.
Liverpool close in as Barcola pushes for exit
Liverpool have moved back to the front of the queue for Barcola, with three key factors swinging their way.
First, the player himself. Barcola is understood to favour a move to Anfield over Arsenal and has already reached a contractual agreement with Liverpool. Crucially, he has told Paris Saint-Germain he does not intend to extend his deal beyond 2028, a stance that piles pressure on the French champions to cash in while his value is at its peak.
Liverpool’s need is obvious. Andoni Iraola’s side have already seen Diomande heading to Real Madrid and Olise staying put, leaving a glaring hole in their wide options. Jeremy Jacquet and Victor Munoz are through the door, but they do not solve the issue on the flanks. Barcola, and PSG’s Ibrahim Mbaye, have become priority targets.
The obstacle is the fee. PSG are holding out for around £145m, or €150m excluding bonuses, according to L’Equipe journalist Loic Tanzi. Liverpool’s stance is clear: they do not want to go beyond roughly £100m, or €120m.
The gap is significant. Tanzi, though, believes there is enough time and enough moving parts for the clubs to meet in the middle.
PSG move for Akliouche shifts the landscape
One of those moving parts is already in motion.
PSG are finalising the signing of Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco, a transfer that effectively lines up Barcola’s replacement. Fabrizio Romano has reported that Akliouche has landed in Paris to complete a €50m deal agreed last week, with the formalities being wrapped up at the club.
That development matters. Once Luis Enrique has a new winger and a striker secured, PSG’s stance on Barcola is expected to soften. A hardline €150m position becomes harder to defend when the squad has been reinforced and the player is unwilling to commit long term.
Liverpool, sensing that shift, have already increased their offer. They are not at PSG’s number yet, but the momentum is edging their way.
Bayern step aside – for now
The third boost for Liverpool comes from Germany.
Bayern Munich, long linked with wide forwards and monitoring Barcola as a potential future option, will not move for him this summer. German reporter Christian Falk has made it clear: the left-sided winger is simply too expensive for Bayern in this window.
For Liverpool, that removes the threat of a late hijack from one of Europe’s most powerful clubs. For Bayern, it is a case of “not now, maybe later”.
Their interest is real, and it stretches into next year. Bayern view Barcola as a leading candidate to replace Michael Olise if and when the Frenchman leaves. Olise is staying put this summer, but his long-term future remains uncertain. Should Barcola remain in Paris for another season, Bayern intend to be in the conversation.
If he signs for Liverpool, there is no conversation to be had.
A rare opening Liverpool cannot afford to waste
This is where the stakes rise for the Reds.
They have the player’s approval. They have a clear need in the squad. Their main continental rival has stepped aside. PSG are in the process of signing a replacement and may soon have less leverage.
All that remains is the negotiation.
Liverpool have already missed out on two attacking targets. They are unlikely to get a cleaner runway than this for a winger of Barcola’s profile and age. The question now is simple: will they stretch far enough, quickly enough, to close a deal that could define the shape of their attack for years, or let another elite talent slip through their fingers?
