Liverpool's Chase for Bradley Barcola Faces Bayern Munich Competition

Liverpool’s pursuit of Bradley Barcola has run straight into heavyweight traffic.

The Paris Saint-Germain winger, identified as Liverpool’s prime attacking target this summer, is now firmly on Bayern Munich’s radar as a possible successor to Michael Olise, should the German champions be forced into a sale.

Liverpool’s “top, top, top” winger target

The interest from Anfield is not a whisper in the background. On July 9, transfer insider Graeme Bailey reported that Liverpool are pushing to bring Barcola to Andoni Iraola’s squad in this window. Those close to the situation say Barcola has already told PSG he wants to leave before the summer is out.

PSG, fresh from winning both Ligue 1 and the Champions League, are digging in. The French champions want to keep the 23-year-old and are ready to open talks over a new contract. They also know exactly what they have on their hands.

If they are dragged to the negotiating table, the starting price is brutal: at least €150m (£128m, $170.5m).

That hasn’t cooled Liverpool’s admiration. Fabrizio Romano has repeatedly underlined that Barcola sits at the very top of their shortlist for a new winger. On his YouTube channel this week, Romano stressed that Barcola has been Liverpool’s leading target for months and that the club “love” the player, even if the financial side of any deal remains a major obstacle. He also made it clear that Barcelona are not part of this story, with Jorge Mendes not involved as Barcola’s agent.

So Liverpool know who they want. The problem is, they are not alone.

Bayern circle as Olise uncertainty grows

In Germany, the dominoes are lining up around Michael Olise. Real Madrid want him. Not quietly, either. President Florentino Perez is personally keen on taking the Bayern winger to the Bernabeu.

That possibility has forced Bayern to look at contingencies. According to Bild journalist Christian Falk, Barcola is one of the names on Bayern’s shortlist if they lose Olise. Falk, writing on his CFBayernInsider platform, revealed that Bayern have tracked Barcola for some time, with interest dating back to last summer and even the year before.

The admiration is long-standing. The timing is new.

Falk reports that Bayern currently see “no chance” of landing Barcola because of PSG’s stance and the €150m figures being mentioned. Bayern also do not want to sell Olise this summer. But football plans rarely survive contact with the market, and in Munich they are already gaming out the worst-case scenario.

Contracts, leverage and a looming decision

This is where the situation becomes dangerous for Liverpool.

Barcola’s contract at PSG runs to 2028, one year shorter than Olise’s deal at Bayern. If PSG hold him this summer and no club is willing or able to meet their asking price, his contractual position will start to bite next year. With one year fewer on his deal, PSG’s leverage will weaken, and the market will look very different.

Falk suggests that if Barcola is still on the market next summer, and if Bayern are then forced to sell Olise, the French winger would move from “shortlist” to obvious solution. His salary demands strengthen that case: Barcola currently earns around €7m–8m gross in Paris, roughly half of what Olise is on at Bayern. For a club that wants elite output without blowing up its wage structure, that matters.

From Bayern’s perspective, he fits. From PSG’s perspective, he’s an asset they want to protect. From Liverpool’s perspective, the window to strike may already be narrowing.

A battle of timing and nerve

Liverpool remain “super keen”, as Romano put it. Bayern are watching, waiting, and calculating. PSG are trying to hold their line at €150m while attempting to convince a restless player to commit to a new deal.

Somewhere in the middle of all that, Bradley Barcola’s next move will reshape at least one superclub’s attack.
