After watching Yan Diomande slip first towards Paris Saint-Germain and then dramatically veer off to Real Madrid, Liverpool have shifted their transfer crosshairs. The new primary target is clear: Barcola, the 23-year-old wide forward PSG are now bracing themselves to lose.
Liverpool raise the bid, PSG hold the line
The first contact between the clubs underlined the size of the task. Liverpool opened talks by signalling they were prepared to go to around €100m (£86m) for Barcola. Big money, even in this market. Just not big enough for PSG.
The French champions set their stall out at a staggering €150m (£128.5m), a price designed to test just how serious Liverpool and new head coach Andoni Iraola really are about reshaping the attack.
Liverpool’s answer has been emphatic. According to BBC Sport, they have now indicated a willingness to push their offer to £100m (€117m), a major escalation that drags the two clubs closer to common ground and underlines how central Barcola is to their plans.
The gap is shrinking, but it has not disappeared. Negotiations remain live, the figures still being inched towards a point where both sides can claim victory.
Barcola wants Anfield – and minutes
On the player’s side, the situation is far less complicated.
Barcola is understood to be keen on the move to Anfield, enticed by Iraola’s promise of more game time and a leading role in a refreshed Liverpool frontline. While the clubs haggle over millions, personal terms are not expected to be a stumbling block once the fee is agreed.
PSG, for their part, have read the room. They are already plotting life after Barcola, lining up Monaco’s Maghnes Akliouche and Ajax talent Mika Godts as potential replacements. When a club starts working that far ahead, it usually means they know what is coming.
Double raid: Mbaye also in Liverpool’s sights
Liverpool’s interest in Paris does not stop with Barcola.
The club are also pursuing Ibrahim Mbaye, the 18-year-old winger who caught the eye for Senegal at the World Cup. Reliable French reporter Fabrice Hawkins has confirmed that Liverpool have made contact with PSG over the teenager, who prefers to operate off the right.
If Barcola arrives to attack from the left and Mbaye from the opposite flank, Iraola would suddenly have a new-look, dual‑wing threat to reshape Liverpool’s forward line for the next cycle.
On Tuesday night, Fabrizio Romano added another layer to the story, revealing that Liverpool have already spoken to Mbaye’s new agent, Jorge Mendes. Bundesliga clubs are circling with proposals of their own, but Mbaye is currently giving priority to the Liverpool project.
A deal with RB Leipzig had been close, only to collapse once Diomande’s proposed move to PSG fell through and the dominoes shifted. Now the path is open again, with talks expected to continue.
A statement window in the making
This is not tinkering around the edges. A £100m push for Barcola, combined with a move for one of the World Cup’s standout young wingers, would amount to a full-scale overhaul of Liverpool’s wide options.
