Real Madrid centre-back Raul Asencio has been informed he can leave the Bernabeu, and Liverpool have been alerted to the opportunity, according to TEAMtalk.
The Spain international has been “sounded out” to the Reds after being told his future lies away from the Spanish capital. Madrid head coach Mourinho is understood to rate Asencio, but has made it clear he does not see a long-term role for him in his plans and has given the green light to an exit.
That stance has nudged Liverpool into the conversation. Sources indicate the club have been receptive since Asencio’s representatives made contact, and boss Iraola is described as a long-time admirer of the defender.
For now, though, there is a catch. Asencio is still determined to stay at Real Madrid, and that resolve has stopped any formal negotiations from taking off. Liverpool are watching, waiting.
