Leah Davidson Joins Charlton Athletic from Melbourne City

Charlton Athletic have moved to sharpen their midfield with the signing of Australia international Leah Davidson from A-League Women giants Melbourne City on a two-year deal.

At 25, Davidson arrives in south London with the kind of pedigree that immediately lifts expectation. She has just come off a dominant spell in Australia, collecting three consecutive league titles during six seasons in the A-League Women and establishing herself as one of Melbourne City's on-field pillars.

Her numbers tell part of the story. More than 100 appearances for City since joining from Brisbane Roar in 2020, a regular presence in a side that set the standard in Australia’s top flight. That level of consistency and durability is exactly what Charlton are buying.

Davidson has already broken into the national setup, earning four caps for Australia, and now steps into a Charlton project that is gathering pace. She becomes the club’s second new arrival this week after goalkeeper Anna Koivunen joined from Djurgardens IF, a double move that underlines the club’s intent to strengthen both the spine and the dressing-room culture.

“I am so excited to be here and be a part of something so special,” Davidson said after completing the move. The words carried the weight of a player who has already lived a full chapter elsewhere. “I spent six years at Melbourne City. I loved it, grew as a player and a person, but I thought: ‘I can’t say no to this opportunity.’”

Charlton are betting that a midfielder hardened by title races and used to high standards can translate that success to English football. Davidson, by the sound of it, has come to do far more than just make up the numbers.
