Juventus Signs Guglielmo Vicario on Loan from Tottenham
Juventus have turned to Guglielmo Vicario, striking a deal with Tottenham for the goalkeeper to move to Turin on an initial loan after shelving plans to sign Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martínez.
The agreement includes an option for Juventus to make the transfer permanent next year for £8.6m, giving the Italian club a relatively low‑risk route to secure a new long-term No 1. For Vicario, it marks a sharp change of direction after losing his place at Spurs under Roberto De Zerbi.
Juventus pivot from Martínez to Vicario
Juventus had explored a move for Martínez once Villa lined up Parma’s Zion Suzuki in a deal worth around £30m. An opening offer of €10m from the Italian side was rejected over the weekend, and with the Argentina international currently out with a finger injury, Juve moved on quickly.
That switch in focus opened the door for Vicario, who returns to Serie A with the chance to re-establish himself at a major Italian club rather than sit behind Antonin Kinsky in north London.
From Spurs starter to the exit door
Vicario joined Tottenham in 2023 for £17.2m and rapidly became first choice, racking up almost 120 appearances. His status changed this summer when De Zerbi installed Kinsky as his new No 1 and added Martin Dubravka on a free transfer as cover.
Once that decision landed, Vicario’s departure felt inevitable. At 29, he now becomes the latest significant exit in a busy window for Spurs, following Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, Will Lankshear and Yves Bissouma out of the club.
The trimming may not be over. Pape Matar Sarr is attracting serious interest from Everton and Nottingham Forest, with the Senegal midfielder valued at £30m.
Spurs keep spending as attack rebuild looms
All this movement comes against the backdrop of a heavy Tottenham outlay. The club have already committed more than £200m on six new signings in this window, and the recruitment drive is not slowing.
Savinho is high on their list. The Brazil forward, owned by Manchester City, was left out of Enzo Maresca’s squad for the Community Shield defeat to Arsenal in Cardiff and is thought to be open to a switch.
Tottenham have also been strongly linked with Liverpool’s Cody Gakpo as De Zerbi looks to sharpen his forward line. With a goalkeeper heading for Juventus and fresh firepower targeted, Spurs’ reshaped spine is starting to take shape – but the real verdict will come once the new-look side walks out in the Premier League.
