Josh Yaro Joins Athletic Club Boise on Loan

St. Louis CITY SC defender Josh Yaro has joined USL League One side Athletic Club Boise on loan for the remainder of the 2026 season, closing – at least temporarily – a chapter with a club he has helped shape from its earliest days.

The 31-year-old center back arrived in St. Louis in 2022, before the first team had even kicked a ball in MLS. He became a cornerstone for CITY2, anchoring the back line as the reserve side stormed to the inaugural MLS NEXT Pro Western Conference title. That run helped set the competitive tone for the expansion club long before the lights came on at CITYPARK.

His reward was a promotion to the first team in 2023, where he evolved into exactly the kind of squad player every new franchise needs: reliable, professional, and ready whenever called.

“Josh has been with the club from the beginning and has always been a great teammate, stepping up whenever needed both on and off the pitch,” said Sporting Director Corey Wray. “He has embraced the city and consistently made an impact through numerous community initiatives, which speaks to the person he is. We are excited that he now has an opportunity to get consistent minutes in a competitive team and wish him and AC Boise the best for the remainder of the season.”

The move is straightforward on paper: a veteran defender searching for regular minutes heads to a growing lower-division club that needs his experience. For Yaro, it is a chance to play every week again, to lead a back line instead of waiting for a window of opportunity.

For St. Louis, it is a calculated decision. CITY keep a trusted professional in their orbit while clearing a path for him to stay sharp in a demanding league. If called upon in the future, he will return battle-tested, not bench-rusted.

For AC Boise, this is a statement addition. A defender who has lived the grind of MLS NEXT Pro success and stepped into MLS pressure now drops into their dressing room, bringing standards with him.

Yaro leaves St. Louis for now as more than a depth piece. He goes as part of the club’s foundation – a player who helped CITY2 win, helped the first team launch, and helped the community connect with a new badge. The next phase of his career plays out in Boise, where consistent minutes will tell how much more he can still give.
