Inter Milan Signs Curtis Jones for $40 Million
Inter Milan have struck a $40 million agreement to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, prising a homegrown talent away from Anfield as both clubs reset for the new season.
Multiple outlets, including The Athletic, ESPN and Sky Sports, reported the deal on Thursday. Jones, 25, had just one year left on his Liverpool contract, a ticking clock that has now forced a decisive move rather than a drawn-out saga.
A product of Liverpool’s academy, Jones broke into the senior side in 2019 and grew into a reliable squad presence. Last season he delivered three goals and three assists across 49 appearances in all competitions in 2025-26, a campaign that underlined his versatility more than his headline numbers.
Over his entire Liverpool career, Jones amassed 22 goals and 22 assists in 228 appearances. Not spectacular, but steady. Managers trusted him. He could drop deeper, drift wide, or push on from midfield, knitting moves together for a side built on intensity.
The signs of a departure had been there. Jones did not feature in Liverpool’s last two friendlies, both Sunday outings against Como and Monaco. While others sharpened up for the Premier League curtain-raiser, he stayed on the periphery, his future being decided elsewhere.
Liverpool's Next Steps
Liverpool now turn toward their league opener against Newcastle, scheduled for 11:30 a.m. EDT on Sunday at St James’ Park in Newcastle upon Tyne. They will do so without a midfielder who has been part of the club’s fabric for half a decade.
Inter's Plans
Inter, meanwhile, are wasting no time. The Serie A giants will host Monza at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday in Milan to launch their Italian campaign. Jones will be expected to add energy and control to a midfield already rich in technical quality.
One club moves on from a local product; another bets $40 million that he can take them up a level. The season is only just starting, and Curtis Jones already sits at the heart of one of its boldest early calls.
