Harry Kane is ready to close the door on Tottenham – and on the Premier League goals record – by committing his long-term future to Bayern Munich.

The England captain is due back in Germany for pre-season this week and will sit down with Bayern to discuss a new contract that would extend his stay in Bavaria well into the twilight of his career. His current deal, worth a reported £21.5million a year, has just 12 months left, but there is a clear will on all sides to get an extension done.

According to The Times, Bayern are preparing a new three-year agreement that would keep Kane at the club until just before his 36th birthday. If signed, it would all but end the long-running hope in north London that their greatest modern striker might one day walk back through the doors at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

That possibility has lingered ever since Kane left for Germany. The narrative was neat: go abroad, finally collect major silverware, then return to the Premier League to chase down Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260 goals. Kane is still only 47 shy of that mark, a gap that once felt like an open invitation for a late-career homecoming.

Tottenham, naturally, were seen as the likeliest landing spot. The club he grew up in. The stadium built in part on his goals. A fanbase that never quite stopped dreaming.

But Kane’s priorities have shifted with his medal collection. After lifting two Bundesliga titles in three seasons, his focus has hardened on the one prize that has eluded him everywhere: the Champions League. He believes Bayern can deliver it, and the numbers back up why they are so desperate to keep him.
