Barcelona Watches Closely as Estevao Grows Frustrated with Chelsea Role Under Xabi Alonso
Estevao, the promising Brazilian winger, is increasingly unhappy with his limited playing time at Chelsea under manager Xabi Alonso. The 19-year-old has barely featured this Premier League season, sparking concern from Barcelona, who remain alert to a possible transfer opportunity.
Limited Minutes at Stamford Bridge
So far, Estevao has played just 23 minutes in the first five Premier League matches, mainly remaining on the sidelines. His only starts have come in the EFL Cup, leaving the youngster frustrated and feeling overlooked. After a debut season spent adapting to English football, he expected to have a bigger role but now doubts his immediate future at Chelsea.
Tactical Differences With Alonso
Reports suggest a cold tension between Estevao and Alonso, driven by tactical disagreements. Estevao prefers moving into a central attacking position from his usual right wing spot, but that area is occupied by Cole Palmer. Moreover, the teenager resists continuing to bulk up physically, fearing it would reduce his speed and agility—his main strengths.
Despite these issues, Estevao isn’t pushing for a move away from Chelsea right now, and his agents are not actively seeking a transfer.
Professional Attitude Amid Challenges
"Every manager has their way of playing and, of course, I work every day and give my best," Estevao said during international duty with Brazil in Australia. "We have a lot of players with immense quality at Chelsea. I focus on what I can control. When I have a chance, I try to give my best."
Xabi Alonso has also shown support, stating there is a full chance Estevao will earn more playing time due to his high potential.
Barcelona Keeps Tabs
Barcelona remains interested despite no immediate transfer plans. The club followed Estevao’s progress closely during his time at Palmeiras, but decided to prioritize signing Lamine Yamal, which allowed Chelsea to sign Estevao for €61.5 million. Still, sporting director Deco is well-informed about Estevao’s situation and Barcelona continues to watch developments at Stamford Bridge carefully.
