England Receives Boost with Guehi and Rice Training Ahead of Norway Clash
England’s preparations for their World Cup quarter-final in Miami were given a timely lift as Marc Guehi and Declan Rice both came through training on the eve of the showdown with Norway.
Guehi had been a major concern after reports of a hamstring problem, while Rice had been laid low by a stomach bug in the aftermath of last weekend’s draining win over Mexico. Both were back in full work with the rest of the squad at Inter Miami’s facilities, easing fears of late disruption to Thomas Tuchel’s plans.
The mood brightened further when Reece James stepped back into the main group. The full-back, also on the comeback trail from a hamstring injury, trained with purpose and now looks on course to be available for selection, adding another powerful option down England’s right.
There was, however, one notable absentee. Jordan Henderson sat out the session as he begins his recovery from wrist surgery, the result of an awkward fall during the celebrations that followed England’s famous victory at the Estadio Azteca. He remains in Miami in a supporting role, part-leader, part-cheerleader, as his teammates push on without him.
England returned to Florida for the first time since their pre-tournament camp and were immediately reminded why they came here early to acclimatise. The temperature hit 33 degrees, the humidity cranking it up to something even more punishing. Every sprint, every press, every touch came with a layer of heat that won’t ease once the whistle blows.
They have spent much of this World Cup under roofs or under rain, but this is the environment they circled in red months ago. Now the conditions they trained for will help decide whether their journey ends in Miami or rolls on into the last four.
