Roberto De Zerbi Sets 10-Goal Target for Savio After Impressive Tottenham Debut

Roberto De Zerbi, manager of Tottenham Hotspur, has set a clear target for new signing Savio after the Brazilian winger scored on his debut in a 5-1 Carabao Cup win against Charlton Athletic. The £85m player came off the bench and found the net within 11 minutes, but De Zerbi wants more than just an impressive start.

Spurs Dominate Charlton with Early Goals

The match was already decided when Savio entered in the 71st minute. Goals from Mikey Moore, Dominic Solanke, and Kevin Danso had put Spurs firmly ahead. Savio’s goal came from a sharp cut inside and a precise low shot into the bottom corner. Although he was denied a second goal due to a deflection that credited Ben Davies, his impact was undeniable.

Manager Demands Higher Scoring Output

De Zerbi praised Savio’s qualities but emphasized the need for regular goals from the winger. He said:

"Yes, it was a perfect day for him. I think his biggest step and biggest improvement is to increase the number of goals. With his qualities, he is one of the best wingers. But the best wingers score many goals. I spoke with him yesterday, two days ago. We put the goal on 10 to 12 goals because we need those goals from the wingers. Last season, I think we suffered too much. Also, because the number of goals were not enough to compete for nothing more than that position."

Pressure Comes With Price Tag

Savio joined Spurs from Manchester City earlier this week in an £85 million deal. At City, he recorded seven goals and 13 assists in 84 appearances. Tottenham’s strong form in the Carabao Cup continues, having won seven of their last eight home ties.

Upcoming Fixtures

This victory sets up an exciting third-round Carabao Cup clash against Liverpool, where Spurs will look for revenge following last season’s semi-final exit. Before that, De Zerbi focuses on Premier League action as Tottenham prepare to host Newcastle United this weekend. Keeping up this attacking momentum will be key during the busy schedule ahead.
