Curtis Jones bids farewell to Liverpool after 16 years

Curtis Jones has drawn a hard line under a 16-year Liverpool story, sealing a move to Inter Milan in a deal worth around £30 million and closing the book on a journey that began when he was a boy in the academy.

The 25-year-old leaves Anfield with more than 200 senior appearances, 22 goals and six major trophies to his name, including two Premier League titles. Numbers that tell one side of it. His goodbye told the other.

“I came here as a kid…”

Jones turned to social media to say farewell, and the emotion in his words made it clear how heavy this step felt.

“After 16 years, it's time to say goodbye,” he wrote. “I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool, and I've been lucky enough to actually live that dream.”

For Jones, Liverpool was never just an employer. It was his world. He reminded supporters how long the club has framed his life.

“This club is all I've ever known. I came here as a kid and I'm leaving as a man with a family of my own, which probably puts into perspective just how much of my life I've spent here.”

He listed the milestones that have marked his time on Merseyside: his debut, the trophies, the memories that will not fade – and something bigger than football.

“So much has happened during my time here, both on and off the pitch. I've made my debut, won trophies, made memories I'll never forget, and I've become a dad.”

That last part clearly struck him hardest. Jones tied his family story to the club’s colours.

“Having my daughter while I've been here makes it even more special because Liverpool isn't just part of my story anymore, it's part of my family's story too.”

Gratitude on the way out

Before turning fully towards Italy and Inter, Jones made sure to look back and thank those who helped shape him.

He namechecked the academy staff who first coached him, the managers and coaches who trusted him, the teammates who shared dressing rooms and bus rides, and the people behind the scenes at Anfield who rarely see the spotlight but keep the place moving.

“To all the lads I've shared a dressing room with over the years, thank you. I've played with some unbelievable players and made friendships I know I'll have for life,” he said.

Then came the part every Liverpool player knows matters most: the bond with the fans.

“Thank you to the fans that stuck by me and always supported me. I will always be one of you.”

A new chapter, without cutting the cord

Jones heads to Serie A now, into a new league, a new country, a new pressure. He made it clear he is ready for that step.

“Now it's time for a new challenge and a new chapter for me and my family, and I'm excited for what's ahead.”

But he never once spoke as if he was closing the door on Liverpool emotionally. Quite the opposite.

“But Liverpool will always be a massive part of me. I came here as a kid with a dream and I'm leaving having lived it.”

He ended his message with a final, sweeping thank you to everyone who crossed his path at the club across those 16 years.

“So genuinely, to everyone who has played any part in my 16 years here, thank you. I'll never forget it. YNWA.”

From academy hopeful to title-winning midfielder, Jones leaves having done what he set out to do. The shirt changes now. The roots do not.
