Cristiano Ronaldo Vows to Reveal Truth After Leaving Portugal Squad Amid Conflict with Jorge Jesus
Cristiano Ronaldo Speaks Out After Abrupt Exit from Portugal Camp
Cristiano Ronaldo has broken his silence following a sudden departure from the Portugal national team camp. The star forward made a public promise to disclose the full truth behind his exit, which came after tensions rose and a very public dispute with coach Jorge Jesus during the international break.
Official Statement From Ronaldo
Ronaldo confirmed his decision to leave the squad via social media, responding shortly after a press conference by manager Jorge Jesus and emergency discussions involving the Portuguese Football Federation. He wrote: "Following the national team manager's press conference, and after speaking with the President of the Portuguese Football Federation, I have chosen to leave the national team camp." His exit happened just before a key Nations League match against Denmark.
Promise to Explain Reasons Behind Departure
The player-coach relationship deteriorated when Ronaldo was left on the bench without playing during a 2-1 win over Norway. Right after the game, Ronaldo left directly through the tunnel. In his message, Ronaldo pledged transparency, saying: "In due time, I will tell all Portuguese people the truth about the reasons that led to my departure from the national team, a team I have always been fully committed to. For now, I wish Portugal and all my teammates the best of luck without exception."
Dispute Over Playing Time
The conflict mainly revolves around playing minutes and communication. Coach Jesus started Joao Felix and Goncalo Ramos as forwards against Norway, both of whom scored goals. Although Ronaldo warmed up in the second half, he remained sidelined. Jesus claimed he had informed Ronaldo beforehand, stating: "I told the player he wasn’t going to play. If I need you for 30 minutes, you’ll play; if not, you won’t. No player will make me change my mind."
What’s Next for Ronaldo?
After leaving Copenhagen on his private jet bound for Madrid, Ronaldo’s future with the national team remains uncertain. It is unclear whether he plans to retire from international football altogether or take a break while Jorge Jesus remains coach.
