At 35, Cristian Tello, known for his stints with Barcelona and Real Betis, has announced his retirement from professional football. His career spanned 512 matches across six different countries, ending after a brief period with UAE third-tier club Palm City FC.

Tello, a product of the famed La Masia academy, made his breakthrough at Barcelona. He later spent his prime years competing in high-profile leagues with clubs like Porto, Fiorentina, and Betis. Since October 2025, he had been playing in the Middle East before deciding to hang up his boots on September 6.

Sharing his thoughts on Instagram, Tello looked back on his journey with emotion. He spoke about the joy and challenges, the friendships, and the unforgettable moments football gave him. He expressed deep gratitude toward family, teammates, coaches, club staff, friends, and supporters.
"Today it is time to say goodbye to a part of my life. After so many years, so many matches, so many dressing rooms, so much joy and also difficult moments, the time has come to bring an end to professional football. Football has given me everything. It has allowed me to fulfil dreams that once seemed impossible, meet people I will carry with me forever, and experience moments that will stay in my memory for a lifetime."

Throughout his travels, Tello collected impressive honors. These included a La Liga title with Barcelona, a Copa del Rey win with Betis, and an MLS Cup championship with Los Angeles FC.
