Court McGee Opens Up About Choosing UFC 332 as His Final MMA Fight
Court McGee, a seasoned welterweight in the UFC, has announced that his upcoming bout at UFC 332 will mark the end of his mixed martial arts career. McGee, who first entered the UFC in 2010 after winning Season 11 of The Ultimate Fighter, is set to face Eric Nolan in the opening preliminary match on Saturday at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Reasons Behind McGee’s Retirement Decision
The 41-year-old athlete from Utah had already hinted at retirement following this fight, but recently shared the full story behind his choice. Speaking with MMAjunkie.com, McGee explained that when he signed a four-fight contract a few years ago, he knew his time in the sport was nearing its conclusion.
"Yeah, it's a retirement fight, but I knew it a couple of years ago when I signed this four-fight deal, so I knew it was coming to an end, and I felt confident with it. Before that, with the neck injury, I thought I was done and I was going to leave a fight on the table, and after fulfilling that last one, I hadn’t felt that good in years. I feel really good. I feel really healthy, but I’m 41 and I’ll be turning 42 this year. Like they say, it’s a young man’s sport, and I want to make sure I have my wits about me when I’m done. I have three kids; I’m married. I have a gym. There’s a lot of life ahead of me after 40. I feel good about my decision. I made that decision with those who are close to me, and I’m OK with it. I’ve made peace with it," said McGee.
McGee Faces Underdog Status at UFC 332
Heading into his final fight, McGee is viewed as an underdog by the betting community. The odds list him at +190 against Eric Nolan, who stands as a -225 favorite. While Nolan's UFC record is 0-2, his youth, durability, and knockout power give him an edge. Still, McGee's strong cardio and wrestling skills, along with fan support, make this matchup captivating despite the odds.
