Cheltenham Town Signs Jake Evans on Loan from Leicester City

Cheltenham Town have moved to sharpen their attacking edge with the season-long loan signing of highly rated winger Jake Evans from Leicester City.

The 17-year-old arrives with something many in his age bracket are still waiting for: real minutes in the men’s game. He featured 16 times in League One for Northampton Town last season, a crash course in senior football that clearly left him wanting more.

"I'm over the moon to be here," Evans told the club’s website. "I have had a taste of senior football, and I just want more. I can't wait to play for the Gaffer and the Robins fans."

That hunger is exactly what Steve Cotterill has been chasing all summer.

The Cheltenham boss did not hide how long this move has been in the works. "Jake has been one of my targets throughout the summer," he said, underlining just how deliberate this piece of business is rather than a late-window scramble. Interest came from across League Two and even higher divisions, yet Cotterill got his man.

That matters. When a 17-year-old wide player on the books at a Premier League club draws attention up and down the pyramid, it usually means two things: pace and fearlessness. Cheltenham will expect both.

Cotterill, though, was quick to frame the deal in realistic terms as well as optimistic ones. "As well as being an exciting player, it is also worth remembering that he is a young man learning his trade in the men's game."

Evans has already felt the weight of League One challenges, the physicality, the tempo, the scrutiny. Now he steps into a new dressing room, a new system, and a fanbase eager for a spark out wide.
