Earlier in the window, Monaco had turned down two offers from Chelsea for Camara. The situation shifted when Monaco needed to secure outgoing transfers quickly. Chelsea had initially ruled out signing a replacement for Fernandez unless an opportunity arose.
Chelsea briefly considered signing Manu Kone, but Roma blocked that move. The collapse of Balogun’s transfer to Everton opened the door for Chelsea to swiftly negotiate and agree on Camara's £47 million transfer.

The driving force behind Camara’s arrival was the massive £125 million sale of Fernandez to Manchester City. Chelsea and City reached the agreement after months of negotiation.
