Chelsea Close in on Lamine Camara Deal as Enzo Fernandez Poised to Join Manchester City

Chelsea have reached an agreement with Monaco to sign midfielder Lamine Camara for a fee of around €45 million, including bonuses. This move paves the way for Enzo Fernandez to finalize his high-profile transfer to Premier League rivals Manchester City. The deal is nearly complete, with only the payment schedule left to be settled, according to journalist Sacha Tavolieri.

Camara to Replace Fernandez at Stamford Bridge

The Senegalese international will come in as a direct replacement for Fernandez, who is close to sealing a £120 million move to City. The transfer will reunite Fernandez with coach Enzo Maresca at Manchester City. Chelsea had pursued Camara throughout the summer and ultimately edged out competition from Crystal Palace to secure their top target.

Tensions Surround Fernandez's Departure

The exit of Fernandez follows a challenging spell under manager Xabi Alonso. Recently, Alonso dropped Fernandez from the squad for a Carabao Cup win against Luton Town, questioning his mindset and preparation ahead of the match.

"We need the players that are in the best situation to play. We need to take everything into consideration – players that are in a good moment, players that are not feeling that energy to play. For me, it is very important they feel this desire to play and to have good preparation," Alonso explained.

Alonso also revealed he had a private conversation with Fernandez before the game, deciding it was best for him not to be included in the squad. Despite the strained relationship, Chelsea moved quickly to avoid being short in midfield.

Camara's Credentials at Monaco

Over the past two seasons, Camara has made a significant impact in Ligue 1, featuring in 75 matches across all competitions for Monaco. He contributed six goals and 11 assists during his time in France, establishing himself as a key figure in the team.
