Charlton Athletic Sign Kenya International Timothy Ouma on Loan

Charlton Athletic have moved to strengthen their midfield with the signing of Kenya international Timothy Ouma on a season-long loan from Slavia Prague, securing an option to make the deal permanent.

It is a calculated, ambitious move. Ouma is 22, already well-travelled, and arrives with European experience that belies his age.

Manager Nathan Jones, speaking to the club’s official channels, made it clear this has not been a rushed decision. “Timothy is a player that we've monitored for a long, long time, and he comes with a real good pedigree,” he said, describing him as “an athletic, technical midfield player” who has “had some good experience” and will “add real quality to our midfield.”

This is the type of profile Charlton have increasingly targeted: young, mobile, and schooled in demanding environments.

Ouma’s journey has been anything but straightforward. He started at Nairobi City Stars in his homeland, rising quickly through the Kenyan game before earning a move to Swedish top-flight side IF Elfsborg in the summer of 2022. That step opened the door to European competition and tougher stages.

Across three seasons in Sweden he collected 13 Europa League appearances, gaining the kind of tactical education and big-match exposure that English clubs often crave in a modern midfielder.

From there came the switch to Slavia Prague, one of Central Europe’s most respected clubs, and another loan – this time to Lech Poznan in Poland. That stint brought silverware, as he helped Poznan lift the league title last season.

Now the next chapter lies in south-east London, where Charlton have not only brought in a player with a growing international reputation, but also protected their longer-term interests with the option to buy.

If Ouma adapts quickly to the rhythm and physical edge of English football, Charlton may not just have solved a short-term midfield need. They might have found a cornerstone for the seasons to come.
