Carolina Holguin's Farewell Message to Lionel Messi After Eldense Takeover
The outgoing president of Eldense, Carolina Holguin, has made a heartfelt appeal to Lionel Messi following his historic acquisition of the Spanish second-division club. The Colombian executive confirmed her departure and encouraged the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner to respect the club's 105-year history while inspiring the local community.
Transition of Leadership at Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat
Holguin's tenure officially ended when Messi finalized his takeover after purchasing shares from Pascual Perez in October 2025. During her leadership, she played a key role in helping the men's first team achieve promotion back to La Liga, while also advancing the women's team and youth academy. She called on fans to welcome the new owner warmly from day one.
Confident Handover to Football Icon
"For me, being able to hand over the reins of this club to him today is an enormous source of pride and, above all, gives me the peace of mind of knowing that I leave it in the best hands," Holguin said in her farewell statement released by the club.
Alongside her blessing, she directly requested: "Take care of it, respect what it means to its people and, above all, bring big dreams to Elda."
Challenges Faced and Hope for the Future
Her presidency involved difficult choices aimed at securing the club’s financial stability, sometimes stirring controversy among supporters. Looking back, she admitted those decisions were tough and often unpopular but believed that handing the club to one of football’s greatest legends opens a promising chapter.
Upcoming Match Against Eibar
Eldense now turns their attention to the pitch as they prepare to face Eibar this weekend. After a slow start with only five points from five games, the team sits 16th in the Segunda Division standings. A win at home will be critical to move away from the relegation zone under the fresh leadership of Messi.
