Carlos Queiroz has made an unexpected comeback as the head coach of Ghana, returning less than two months after resigning following their exit from the World Cup. The 73-year-old initially left his post in July, shortly after the Black Stars' elimination from the tournament.
Brief First Stint Ends Quickly
Queiroz's first spell with Ghana lasted under three months. He was appointed in April to replace Otto Addo, but stepped down after the team's World Cup journey ended. Despite this short tenure, his return signals a fresh start for the national team.
GFA Shows Confidence in Queiroz
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) announced on Thursday that they have reappointed Queiroz, expressing full trust in his ability to guide the Black Stars forward. Their official statement highlighted Queiroz’s wealth of international experience and his knowledge of the squad.
"The Ghana Football Association (GFA) is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Carlos Queiroz for his appointment as Head Coach of the Black Stars for the next phase of the team’s programme," the GFA said. "We believe his extensive international experience, technical expertise, and familiarity with the Black Stars position him well to lead Ghana into this new chapter."

A Coach With Global Experience
This marks the ninth international team Queiroz has managed over his long career. He guided Iran through three World Cups and led Portugal to the last 16 in 2010. His resume also includes stints with South Africa, the United Arab Emirates, Colombia, Egypt, Qatar, and Oman.
During his brief first time with Ghana, Queiroz oversaw a dramatic 1-0 win against Panama thanks to a late goal from Caleb Yirenkyi, followed by a goalless draw with England and a narrow 2-1 loss to Croatia.
At club level, Queiroz served as Sir Alex Ferguson’s assistant at Manchester United, contributing to three Premier League titles and the 2008 Champions League victory. He also had a notable season as Real Madrid head coach in 2003-04.

Queiroz won’t have to wait to get back on the sidelines. The GFA confirmed his mandate begins during the current international window. The Black Stars aim to quickly adapt to his tactics as they regroup following the World Cup.
