Batistuta Shines in Fiorentina's 7-3 Centenary Celebration Win

Gabriel Batistuta made a striking comeback at the Stadio Artemio Franchi on September 2, 2026, netting two goals in a thrilling 7-3 victory during Fiorentina's centenary legends match. The event saw the Fiorentina All-Stars face off against Operazione Nostalgia, drawing over 20,000 fans eager to honor a century of football history.

The Argentine striker shared the pitch with celebrated teammates like Manuel Rui Costa, Roberto Baggio, and Francesco Totti, sparking memories of his prolific days with La Viola in the 1990s. His performance ignited the crowd, especially those gathered in the Curva Fiesole, known for their passionate support.

Curva Fiesole Connection and Match Reflections

After the game, Batistuta revealed he chose to attack the goal beneath the Curva Fiesole after winning the coin toss before kickoff. "I won the toss and picked that side because it feels familiar," he said. "Honestly, I'm not in top shape to play, but I couldn’t miss Fiorentina’s party. I’m part of these 100 years, so I had to be here."

He added, "I felt their love, and clearly they felt what I feel for them. It’s mutual, and I hope it stays that way."

Contrast With Recent Serie A Struggles

The celebration contrasted sharply with Fiorentina’s official Serie A anniversary game on August 29, 2026, when Fabio Grosso’s squad suffered a 3-0 defeat at home to newly promoted Frosinone. Despite the setback, the centenary festivities kept the city’s spirits high with torchlight parades and light displays illuminating Florence throughout the week.

Batistuta highlighted the difference between the team’s results and the unwavering passion of Fiorentina’s fans.

An Unbreakable Bond With Florence

Reflecting on Fiorentina’s special place in its supporters’ hearts, Batistuta described the love the city has for the club as "incredible, rarely seen anywhere in the world." When asked about the essence of Fiorentina, he concluded simply, "Don’t try to find explanations, you understand? Just feel it."
