Bardghji Faces Setback with ACL Injury After Transfer Hopes
The news landed at Barcelona on Tuesday with a thud. Bardghji, the 20-year-old winger earmarked for a summer exit, has torn the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee. Again.

From transfer talks to operating table
This was supposed to be the summer Bardghji moved on. For Bardghji, the blow cuts deeper because this is not new territory. It is the second time he has suffered a torn ACL in his right knee, having sustained the same serious injury with Copenhagen in 2024.
Barcelona took a calculated gamble when they signed him last summer for around €2 million from the Danish club. In his debut season in Spain, he made 28 appearances in all competitions and scored two goals. The numbers told a partial story: plenty of involvement, but largely as a substitute, a young winger trying to elbow his way into one of Europe’s most competitive forward lines.
This season was not shaping up to be any kinder. With Gordon and Adeyemi added to an already crowded attacking unit, Bardghji’s chances of meaningful minutes shrank further, prompting the honest conversation from Flick and the decision to seek a move.
Then came Monday.
Window shut, options gone
The timing could hardly be worse. With the transfer window closing on September 1, a severe ACL tear leaves no room for manoeuvre. No club is going to invest in a player facing a long lay-off, and Barcelona will not be able to offload him this summer.
Instead of packing his bags for a new league, Bardghji will stay in Barcelona, swapping the uncertainty of the market for the relentlessness of rehab. The club confirmed he will undergo surgery in the coming days before starting a lengthy recovery programme at their facilities.
His season, in competitive terms, is effectively over before it has begun. What was supposed to be a campaign of reinvention elsewhere becomes a year of rebuilding in Catalonia.
