The Julian Álvarez saga has stepped out of the transfer pages and into the legal column. According to SPORT, FC Barcelona have now been formally notified that Atlético Madrid’s complaint over their pursuit of the Argentine striker has triggered disciplinary proceedings at the Spanish Football Federation (RFEF).

RFEF opens proceedings, Barça build their case

The RFEF has informed Barcelona that disciplinary action has been initiated and given the Catalan club several days to present their version of events. Inside the offices at the Ciutat Esportiva, the matter has already been passed straight to the legal department.

Club lawyers are dissecting Atlético’s complaint line by line, preparing a detailed defence aimed at showing that Barcelona’s conduct stayed within the rules. The stance from the outset is firm: they do not expect serious punishment.

Senior figures at the club view the complaint as weak. They are calm, not combative, but convinced they have enough arguments to dismantle Atlético’s accusations.

At the heart of the dispute lies a simple question: did Barcelona talk to a player under contract without permission?

Atlético Madrid allege that Barça held discussions with Álvarez while he remains tied to the club until 2030. Barcelona counter with a different narrative.
