Barcelona Submits Official Bid for Julián Álvarez as Summer Plans Intensify

Barcelona are wasting no time shaping their new attack. With the deal for Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United close to the finish line, the Spanish champions have already turned their attention to the next piece of the puzzle: Julián Álvarez of Atletico Madrid.

This is not a tentative enquiry. According to Fabrizio Romano, Barça are preparing their first official offer to land the Argentine striker in the upcoming transfer window, a move that would underline how aggressively the club intend to move in the market.

Deco steps in, Álvarez pushes to leave

The pursuit has moved quickly behind the scenes. Sporting director Deco met directly with Álvarez’s agent earlier this week, in a meeting mediated by Juanma Lopez. That summit has effectively opened the door to formal negotiations.

On the player’s side, the message is clear. Álvarez has already informed Atletico Madrid that he wants to leave and has turned down the club’s offer of a contract renewal. When a 26-year-old forward of his calibre makes that stance public inside the club, the dynamic of any negotiation changes.

Barcelona want to exploit that shift. Their plan is to lay the foundations of a deal well before the 2026 FIFA World Cup, fully aware that a strong tournament from Álvarez would invite a bidding war they can ill afford.

A €100 million ceiling meets a €150 million wall

Inside the Camp Nou offices, there is no doubt: Álvarez is viewed as the primary centre-forward target. But there is also a hard line. Barcelona have set a maximum of €100 million for the transfer and are determined not to cross it.

Atletico see things very differently. They do not want to strengthen a direct domestic rival and are holding out for around €150 million. That gap is significant, and it threatens to turn this into one of the summer’s most complex negotiations.

The one factor tilting the scales is Álvarez’s own position. His desire to leave, already communicated to Atletico, could apply pressure on the Madrid club to soften their stance or at least sit down seriously at the table when Barcelona’s opening offer lands.

For now, the champions are ready. The first bid is being prepared, and official talks between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid are set to begin. How far each side is willing to bend will define not just this deal, but the shape of La Liga’s attacking hierarchy for years to come.
