Barcelona sets €65m price for Ferran Torres amid PSG interest
Barcelona have put a clear price on Ferran Torres – and on their own flexibility.
The Catalan club have set a starting demand of at least €65 million for the Spanish forward as Paris Saint-Germain move into formal talks over a transfer, according to SPORT. It is a firm stance, but not a closed door.
Behind the scenes, the operation has accelerated at remarkable speed. Ferran has already reached an agreement with PSG, and once he officially communicates his desire to leave, negotiations between the clubs are expected to begin this week. The message from Barcelona is simple: they are willing to sell, but only at the right price.
From reluctance to opportunity
Only a short while ago, Barça were reluctant to even consider letting Ferran go before signing another striker. That internal position has shifted as PSG’s interest has hardened into a concrete plan.
Now, the club see the 26-year-old as a potential financial lever. They want a “substantial” fee and believe they are justified in asking for it. Their argument leans on two pillars: a hyper-inflated market for forwards and Ferran’s recent performances on the biggest stage.
His strong World Cup campaign, capped by scoring the winning goal for Spain in the final, has boosted his profile and, in Barcelona’s eyes, his market value. Within the club, there is a clear conviction that any sale must reflect both his form and the current reality of transfer fees.
The €65m figure, though, is a starting point rather than a red line. Barcelona know PSG are unlikely to simply sign off on that number. They are setting the tone for a negotiation, not presenting a take-it-or-leave-it ultimatum.
The numbers game
PSG, for their part, are not planning to meet the full €65m demand. But they are aware that only a serious, well-structured offer will bring Barcelona to the table in earnest.
The current valuation being discussed sits around €55 million. That is the level sources believe could realistically be reached through a mix of fixed fee and performance-related variables. It also happens to be a significant figure for Barcelona for another reason.
When Barça signed Ferran from Manchester City, they paid €55m. A deal at or around that amount would allow them to effectively recover their initial outlay. With much of the original transfer fee already amortised in the accounts, a sale now would not just balance the books on paper – it would generate a tangible financial benefit.
There is another angle too. Offloading Ferran would free up space on the wage bill, a constant concern at Camp Nou. The combination of a strong fee and salary relief could unlock other planned moves before the transfer window closes, giving sporting director Deco more room to manoeuvre.
Deco, Campos and the middle ground
One factor working in favour of a swift resolution is the relationship between the key negotiators. Barcelona sporting director Deco and PSG’s Luis Campos enjoy a good professional rapport. That does not mean discounts, but it can help strip away unnecessary friction and push both clubs towards a realistic compromise.
All roads currently point to that €55m zone as the likely middle ground. PSG can structure an offer to reach it. Barcelona can present it internally as a deal that protects their investment and supports their wider squad planning.
