Barcelona Confirms Departures of Araujo and Jofre Torrents

Barcelona are set to draw a firm line under two major exits today, with the board having signed off on offers that reshape both the present and the future of the club.

According to Mundo Deportivo, the headline departure is Ronald Araujo, who is bound for Liverpool once the move is made official. His exit alone would mark a significant shift in the dressing room hierarchy and defensive structure. Yet it will not be the only farewell.

Alongside Araujo, Barcelona are expected to confirm the departure of 19-year-old left-back Jofre Torrents, who will join Ajax Amsterdam. The deal includes a buy-back clause, a clear sign that Barça are not ready to close the door on him for good.

The agreement had been expected to be wrapped up on Sunday, but Ajax’s first competitive match of the season delayed the formal announcement. The timing slipped; the plan did not. Jofre stayed behind and did not travel to Udine with Barcelona on Saturday, his absence underlining how advanced talks already were as he waited for clarity on his next step.

Michel Sanchez’s side have pushed to secure the young full-back, seeing an opportunity to add a modern, energetic option on the flank. Ajax have already moved in the market at left-back, bringing in Caio Henrique, while Owen Wijndal remains in the squad and, for now, has no intention of leaving.

That congestion on the left shapes the next phase of Jofre’s development. Sporting director Jordi Cruyff views him as a long-term full-back option, and the structure of the deal reflects that belief. With Ajax’s first team and reserve dynamics in mind — the latter competing in the second division — Cruyff may eventually steer Jofre toward a spell at Celta Vigo, where he could gain top-flight minutes in La Liga rather than stagnate in the second tier.
