Barcelona Sets Stunning 21st-Century Scoring Record Surpassing Even Messi’s Era
Barcelona have kicked off their season with a goal-scoring surge that outshines even the most potent attacks in their history. Under Hansi Flick, the team has netted 36 goals across their first eight competitive matches, marking the highest tally ever recorded by Barcelona at this stage.
This impressive figure ranks as the second-best in La Liga history, only surpassed by Sevilla's 1940/41 squad.
Goals Breakdown Reveals Danger
The attack’s potency is reflected not just in total goals but in individual performances. Barcelona have achieved seven braces and two hat-tricks already, totaling nine multi-goal displays before the season has fully taken off.
Raphinha and Lamine Yamal Leading the Charge
Raphinha has been a key figure, scoring 14 times, including braces against Elche, Rayo Vallecano, and Feyenoord, plus back-to-back hat-tricks versus Racing Santander and Sevilla. He found the net in every game except against Levante.
Lamine Yamal, a teenager making waves, follows closely with seven goals, including braces against Rayo Vallecano, Valencia, and Levante. He also contributed four assists, sharing the top assist spot with Anthony Gordon.
Fermin Lopez rounds out the top three scorers, with multiple goals including a brace versus Elche and strikes against Athletic Club and Valencia. He scored in three of the first four games.
Surpassing Even the Messi-Led Teams
The sheer frequency of these multi-goal efforts stands out. According to Mundo Deportivo, no Barcelona squad in the 21st century has started with as many braces and hat-tricks within the first eight fixtures—not even during the peak years with Lionel Messi.
For comparison, the 2016/17 side had six multi-goal efforts (four braces and two hat-tricks) from players including Messi, Luis Suarez, and Arda Turan.
Flick’s Consistent Scoring Pattern
This trend isn’t new under Hansi Flick. In his debut season, players like Robert Lewandowski, Lamine Yamal, and Raphinha registered multiple multi-goal games. Last season saw five braces from Lewandowski, Raphinha, Fermin, Marcus Rashford, and Ferran Torres.
What differs now is the speed and volume; the team is producing these high-scoring performances rapidly, establishing a pace that pushes them into historic territory.
