Aston Villa Secures Nicolas Jackson for £65m, Reuniting with Unai Emery
Aston Villa have finalized a £65 million agreement to bring Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea, reuniting the striker with Unai Emery at Villa Park. The Senegalese forward is set to join the West Midlands club after impressing under Emery's guidance previously at Villarreal.
Emery Lands His Targeted Forward
The deal includes an upfront payment of £47.5 million, with personal terms still being settled. Jackson, 25, has been a key target for Villa and a preferred player for Emery, who has been eager to sign him for some time. This transfer marks the third significant move between the clubs this summer, following Morgan Rogers' record-breaking £117 million move to Chelsea and Alejandro Garnacho's season-long loan to Villa, which includes a conditional purchase obligation.
Reuniting With a Proven Talent
Jackson flourished under Emery at Villarreal, scoring 13 goals before moving to Chelsea in 2023. Their strong connection played a big role in this transfer, as Emery understands how to get the best out of the versatile forward. Jackson joined Chelsea from Villarreal for £32 million on an eight-year contract and scored 30 goals in 81 appearances. Despite showing his talent and work ethic, Chelsea has decided to cash in on his market value amid squad changes.
Loan Experience in Germany
During the 2025-26 season, Jackson was loaned to Bayern Munich, where he helped the team win their 34th Bundesliga title by scoring eight goals and assisting twice in 23 league matches. The loan included a €16.5 million initial fee and a €65 million conditional purchase clause. However, the conditions to make the move permanent were not fulfilled.
Bayern’s honorary president Uli Hoeness revealed the clause required Jackson to start 40 matches excluding DFB-Pokal games. He only started 13 Bundesliga and Champions League games combined, so the obligation expired. Jackson returned to Chelsea before Aston Villa entered the scene.
International Quality Joins Villa Park
Jackson brings solid international experience with 37 caps and eight goals for Senegal. Since his debut against the Netherlands at the 2022 World Cup, he has become a key figure for the Teranga Lions. He appeared in four matches at the recent World Cup, providing an assist before Senegal was eliminated in the round of 32 by Belgium.
