Despite Barcelona's strong desire to secure Álvarez, Atlético Madrid is resistant to selling him to their Catalan rivals. The Spanish club prefers to negotiate a deal with teams outside of Spain, aiming to avoid strengthening a direct competitor.

Arsenal's Hopes Fade After Arteta's Comments

Arsenal was among the contenders for Álvarez’s signature, reportedly planning to offer Swedish forward Viktor Gyökeres as part of the negotiation to reduce the transfer fee. When asked about the potential signing, manager Mikel Arteta stated:

I won’t talk about a player who is not from our team. I’m very happy with the team I have. Obviously, we want to improve it, and the club is working on that.

Arteta also confirmed that Gyökeres will remain with Arsenal, signaling that the club is stepping back from pursuing Álvarez, according to Mundo Deportivo. With Gyökeres now part of the squad, Arsenal appears to have withdrawn from the race to sign the Argentine.

Barcelona Maintains Interest but Shows Caution

Álvarez is currently on holiday, awaiting updates on his next destination. Barcelona still ranks him as a top priority but feels comfortable with their current attacking reinforcements, including Anthony Gordon, Adeyemi, and Bisseck.
