Yves Bissouma Nears Move to Ajax for Career Revival

Yves Bissouma is closing in on a move to Ajax, with the former Tottenham midfielder set to sign an initial deal running until the end of the season.

The 30-year-old has been without a club since leaving Spurs in June, but is now poised to restart his career in the Netherlands. He is in Amsterdam finalising the switch to the Eredivisie giants, with the agreement understood to include an option to extend for a further 12 months.

For Ajax, it is a move that brings in experience and bite at the base of midfield. For Bissouma, it is a fresh stage after a turbulent end to his time in north London.

The Mali international joined Tottenham from Brighton in 2022 in a high-profile transfer and went on to make 111 appearances for the club. At his best, he offered drive, aggression and control in the centre of the pitch, traits that once made him one of the most coveted midfielders in the Premier League.

His Spurs story, though, lost momentum. In August 2025, then Tottenham manager Thomas Frank left Bissouma out of the squad for the Uefa Super Cup clash against Paris St-Germain, citing persistent lateness. It was a flashpoint that underlined how far he had drifted from the heart of the team.

Now comes the reset. Ajax, a club that demands technical quality and intensity, are betting that Bissouma’s engine and experience can still shape games at the highest level.

The question is simple: can he turn a short-term deal in Amsterdam into the revival of a career that once seemed destined for the very top?
