Nick Woltemade's Juventus Loan: A Strategic Move for Newcastle

Nick Woltemade is pulling on black and white stripes in Turin now, not Tyneside. Yet for Matthias Jaissle, he has hardly left the building.

The Newcastle United head coach made it clear this week that Woltemade’s loan move to Juventus is not a goodbye, more a carefully chosen detour.

Jaissle spoke warmly about his compatriot, stressing that the striker has earned this chance.

"He deserves to be playing and performing well," Jaissle said, underlining that his admiration goes beyond what Woltemade does with the ball. He praised both the German’s quality on the pitch and his character off it, describing the honest conversations they shared and the player’s desire to test himself in another top league with a top club.

Newcastle will not simply send him off and forget. "We will monitor him and look and see him quite closely," Jaissle insisted, adding that he is "really curious" to see how Woltemade handles life at Juventus and "really optimistic he will shine there."

Then came the punchline. "He will score a lot of goals there, for sure. He's still our player so we will stay in close contact."

While one forward headed for Serie A, another finally arrived on Tyneside.

Fernandez-Pardo era begins

Deadline day delivered the striker Newcastle have chased for a long time as Matias Fernandez-Pardo completed his £51.4m switch from Lille.

The 21-year-old, known for his blistering pace, fits the Jaissle blueprint. There is a caveat. Fernandez-Pardo has not played a full 90 minutes for some time, and the Premier League’s relentless tempo will ask different questions of him. He may need a short bedding-in period to adjust to the physical demands and intensity of English football.

Jaissle, though, has no doubts about the talent Newcastle have brought in.

"We have followed him for a long time," he said. "Also I did before I joined Newcastle because he's an outstanding player."

"For his age, there's a lot of potential," Jaissle added. "I'm looking forward to supporting him to fulfil that."
